2016 NBHA Nat'l Free for All 3/9-13-2016
Hello Gang,
I want to thank those who filled entries to this Nat'l Championship. The handlers list seems short but it looks like our handlers are going to be on the ground most of the day and running in consecutive days. We drew out 33- Open Shooting Dogs and 10- Open Derbies. The field of competitors looks strong with many Champions in the field. The Open Puppies didnt seem to fill up enough to make a stake.
The planned activities are to start on Wednesday March 9th with the Open Shooting dogs first series. This will run also the 10th (Thursday), & 11th (Friday). Friday may be a short day. Depending on the time left on Friday and the gas left in the tank with our handlers we'll probably will start the derbies on Friday and finish up the Derbies on Saturday morning. The second series should start on Saturday afternoon. With this plan we should finish up on Saturday depending on how everything goes and the dogs rest period for those called back to the 2nd series. It's just a plan and could stretch out for the 2nd series to conclude on Sunday morning. Just wanted to let everyone know my thoughts and time projection.
Lunches will be served every day (lunch cost should be $10.00 or less per person). We're planning on a dinner hosted by the TXBHA & ARBHA on Friday after the running on the grounds prepared by Janice Stroud (donations accepted). A tent will be there to make sure we have adequate cover to get out of any possible weather.
Melissa & I will be staying on the grounds and Im sure there will be a grill going for a gathering and hopefully well have plenty of story telling going on. Mike Sandifer is talking about bringing some quail (from the unbelievable TX hunting season) and venison sausage (not sure about the sides yet and feel free to bring something).
Based on my updated budget & business plan of the event the Open Championship pay-out is around $4,025.00 divided to the winners, plus an Garmin Alpha recovery system, Garmin E-Collar, Pelican ice coolers embossed with the NBHA Logo, a years supply of Purina Pro Plan, & Christie gift certificates. The Open Derbies cash pay-out is estimated at $1,350.00 divided between winners, Garmin prizes, & Purina gift coupons. I dont know that I have enough Yeti NBHA embossed cups for every entry so I have a Yeti Hopper soft cooler for those who want to exchange their Yeti cup advertised into a raffle drawing for the soft cooler. It has a $399.00 value. Just ran short of inventory on the cups. Sold some to other clubs for their prizes/gifts. I have to re-crunch the math on the prize money but this is my best estimate to date. Gun Dog Supply also has gift coupons for participants and workers. Trophies will be shipped to the winners. They didnt seem to make the delivery date for me to bring them.
I sure hope everyone has safe travels to the Championship and wish everyone the best of luck with their entries.
