Bob Catlett Missouri State Classic

Bob Catlett Missouri State Classic
The National Bird Hunters Association was very excited about the Missouri State Classic kicking off this year's field trial season along with the sponsor support from Tri-Tronics, Black Gold dog food, and Christie Enterprises in participating with the NBHA as the leader in walking field trials.
This years classic was earlier than in years past, and this provided an opportunity to evaluate a dogs performance early in the trial season. Early weather predictions were forecasting cloudy and a 70 degree day with rain chances, however the day of the trial we had full sun and a warm 80 plus degree day. With warm weather and less than ideal scenting conditions, we still had some dogs with good performances.
Judges for the Bob Catlett Missouri State Classic were Charles Beeler and Don Hilliard both of Lancaster, MO. Both men collectively have more than 100 years of bird dog and hunting experience, and their decision and work was greatly appreciated.
Bob Catlett Open Shooting Dog was Greypointe Gladiador, PM, owned and handled by Doug Meyer of Tonganoxie, KS. Gladiador ran a nice race and had four good fines in his hour performance and he stood the test as he was the only to emerge in the winners circle.
In the Amateur Derby stake 1st place went to Penrosa Punkrap SM owned and handled by Doug Hawes of Kirksville, MO. This nice setter ran a good forward race and was always reaching for the objectives in his search of game. 2nd place went to Westerns Lucky Jack, PM, owned and handled by Kevin Western of Queen City, MO. Jacks race was very similar to that of the winner, only the heat of the day may have been what separated these two dogs.
Open Puppy 1st place was ineligible and 2nd place honors went to Carpenters Last Jett, SF, owned and handled by Larry Carpenter of Clarksburg, MO. Cindy had a nice stylish race on a very warm afternoon this puppy displayed a lot of potential at a early age.
At this years state classic we were very fortunate to have national and state representation of the NBHA. The NBHA national president Doug Meyer, 2nd vice president Tim Penn, and 3rd vice president Chris Gebhardt were present and the NBHA futurity director Tony King, and futurity committee member Jason Kemna were also in attendance. State officers included secretary/ treasure Kevin Western, and 2nd vice president Larry Carpenter. Thanks to all who attended and supported the Bob Catlett Missouri State Classic.
