John C Everett Remembered

With the passing of an avid bird dog enthusiast and friend to the NBHA, John C Everett of Dalzel, SC passed away on October 22 at the age of 85. John served in the United States Air Force after high school and retired from the Air Force in 1979. Following his military career, he worked with a food merchandising company that supplied commissaries in both GA and SC. John eventually would become the managing liaison for the commissary at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC where he managed the many suppliers for their stores.

John’s true passion away from work was his bird dogs. John was an avid bird hunter and devoted his time with the NBHA field trials. John served as the NBHA President for three years and served as NBHA Vice President for fourteen years. John was officer of two different local club trials, the Sumter County Bird Hunters Association and IB Parnell Bird Hunters Association. John was State Director for South Carolina Bird Hunters Association and served as its President for seventeen years.

Johns most recognized achievements in the NBHA is being inducted into the NBHA Hall Of Fame in 2007. John also has his dog Honky Tonk Gigolo inducted into the NBHA Hall Of Fame in 2011. An individual achievement for John was receiving the Amateur Handler of the year for the 1997-98 trial season.

John spent a large amount of his time supporting NBHA field trials in South Carolina. John was always willing and never said no to chairing trials and hosting various NBHA national events. John's willingness to help was obvious when he has given puppies away to newcomers to help them get started. John has been truly dedicated to the field trial sport and to the NBHA organization.
