2014 NBHA National Free for All Championship
The original plans were for this event to start on Wednesday March 5th and conclude on Saturday the 8th with our National Open Championship starting on the following Tuesday. It seems that the global warming seemed to have not cooperated with us having wind, rain, and sleet, ice, and snow as far south as Houston, TX. We were unable to depart on Monday as planned from freezing rain in Houston, TX. Departure moved to Tuesday after lunch after the weather warmed up and the ice on the road had melted. Arriving late to Arkansas with the roads in Arkansas starting to freeze back up were not in too bad of shape. It seems that everyone arriving had delays with the weather and road construction on I40 thankfully all arrived safely.

NBHA Midwest Region Championship
The NBHA Midwest Regional CH was concluded on April 12th, 2014 at the Greenwood Pointe Shooting Preserve near New Franklin, MO. The trial was hosted by the Missouri Bird Hunters Association. This Championship was originally scheduled for Feb. 7 and after two postponements due to heavy snow, ice and single digit temperatures, April 11 was agreed upon. The weather was certainly better for the handlers but probably not for the dogs as it reached the 70's both days along with sun and wind.

Arab Field Trial Club
The Arab, Alabama Field Trial Club held its spring trial at Ken Tolbert’s Murphy Farm training and trialing grounds near Oneonta, Alabama on March 22, 2014. The hundred plus acres of picked and standing corn, stripped sedge, and cut-over woods lines provide an excellent venue for dogs, owners, handlers, and horses. Already having adequate parking and a pleasant clubhouse, the facilities were upgraded this year by the Alabama Region of the NBHA to include a new covered awning with picnic tables. The grounds are a popular spot for both weekend and championship trials, and several Alabama Region clubs are indebted to Ken for his generous provision of these facilities. It seems that Ken and his entire family go the extra mile to welcome trailers and ensure the success of each trial.

2014 Tallapoosa Field Trial Club Spring Trial
The Tallapoosa Field Trial Club hosted its third and final trial for the current season on Feb. 22nd the home of Marty and Linda Robinson. We had beautiful weather for the trial and it appeared all in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is just not many things as enjoyable as seeing the sunrise over well-manicured field trial grounds hearing the call of the early morning quail and the barking dogs that will soon be unleashed in pursuit. The scurrying about of handlers and the prancing around of a fine field trial horse gets my blood flowing lie nothing else. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy such a great sport full of the camaraderie and each and every element making up a field trial. We are so proud to be a National Bird Hunter Club and we are so proud to be supported by such wonderful national sponsors who make all this possible. Purina Pro Plan is so important to our organizations and the feed they produce really shows itself in the performances of the dogs that get their nutrition and energy from that product. Garmin is another sponsor who provides significant support to the NBHA and I believe every dog turned loose at the trial was adorned with a Garmin tracking collar. Rounding out our national sponsors who are so important to us are Gundog Supply and Christie Enterprises.
